Hex Cap Screws & Hex Bolts
Hex Cap Screws and Hex Bolts are very common fasteners found in manufacturing, repair and construction industries worldwide. They are used to fasten 2 or more parts together in an assembly that may require future repair or maintenance disassembly. Their six-sided hex head allows for a more substantial bearing and wrenching surface than what socket products or machine screws can provide, thereby making them the clear choice in many complex and heavy duty applications.

Hex Cap Screws vs. Hex Bolts
While the terms are often used interchangeably, there are actually some distinct differences between the two. Hex Cap Screws may differentiated from Hex Bolts by the following:- Hex Cap Screws are cold-headed, while Hex Bolts are usually hot forged
- Hex Cap Screws possess a washer face on the bearing surface to improve the mating seal
- Hex Cap Screws may have a slight a radius between the head and shank
- Hex Cap Screws typically have a chamfered thread tip to prevent damage to the first thread and facilitate entry into a tapped hole
- Hex Cap Screws are designed to be secured by tightening of the head, while Hex Bolts are designed for assembly by means of tightening a mating nut
Standard and Metric Hex Cap Screws
Standard thread length on Hex Cap Screws or Hex Bolts is twice the diameter plus 1/4” for lengths 6” and shorter. For screws and bolts longer than 6”, thread length is twice the diameter plus 1/2". They may also be supplied fully threaded, denoted as Tap Bolts in that case.Empire Bolt & Screw carries Hex Cap Screws and Hex Bolts in a wide variety of sizes, materials, grades, classes, and finishes.
