Blind Rivets at Empire Bolt & Screw
Blind Rivets are tubular fasteners intended for installations where only 1 side of the joined component is accessible, hence the term “blind”. Blind rivets are inserted into pre-drilled holes in each of the parts to be joined, and a special tool is used to draw the rivet mandrel up through the body of the rivet. In the standard “open end” rivets, the blind rivet end expands and deforms around the blind side of the component and the mandrel snaps off and is discarded, leaving a clean, finished look to the joint. “Closed end” rivets offer an alternative where the mandrel head is retained securely inside the rivet body, eliminating the possibility of the mandrel working itself into an assembly where it could cause shorts or other issues. Additionally, the retained mandrel acts as a tight seal to block the passage of fluids and gases into the rivet body.
Blind rivets come in a wide range of material combinations for both the rivet body and the mandrel: Steel Rivet/Steel Mandrel, Aluminum/Steel, Stainless/Steel, Stainless/Stainless, Aluminum/Aluminum, plus some unusual materials including Monel and Copper. The rivet body head may be a standard dome, large flange, or countersunk, and all available in a vast array of diameters and grip ranges, depending on the thickness of the final joint.
